JEE Main 2026 Session 1 drew 13,55,293 registered candidates, the highest in the exam's history. That scale of competition is the backdrop every 2027 aspirant is preparing against. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet released an official notification for JEE Main 2027. 

However,  the exam structure has remained unchanged for many consecutive years. Hence, a reliable evidence-based projection of the 2027 timeline can be made. This article highlights the expected dates, and the reason behind these dates, drawn from the official conduct pattern of JEE Main 2024, 2025, and 2026 by NTA.

Key JEE Mains Examination Details

JEE Main is conducted in two separate papers, each serving a distinct admission purpose. 

• Paper 1, meant for B.E./B.Tech admissions, is the gateway to undergraduate engineering seats at NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), as well as institutions funded or recognised by participating state governments. Performance in Paper 1 also determines eligibility for JEE Advanced, which is the qualifying route to IIT admissions.

• Paper 2, by contrast, is meant for candidates seeking admission to B.Arch. and B.Planning programmes, and is further divided into Paper 2A (B.Arch.) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) and these are evaluated separately as per the respective course requirements.

As per the established pattern of NTA, JEE Main 2027 is expected to be conducted in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu that provides the candidates the flexibility to attempt the exam in their preferred regional language.

• Paper 1 is conducted in an entirely Computer Based Test (CBT) mode and consists of 75 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for a total of 300 marks to be completed within 3 hours.

• Paper 2A on the other hand includes an offline Drawing Test component in addition to its CBT-based sections as drawing aptitude cannot be assessed through a computer-based format.

An important structural detail for JEE Main 2027 is that only Session 1 is expected to be open for application at the time when the information brochure is first released and the candidates will be able to opt for it directly.  The application window for Session 2 is expected to open at a later stage, in line with the schedule specified in the Information Bulletin, and will be notified separately through an official Public Notice closer to the date.

Anticipated JEE Main 2027 Key Dates

This pattern is based directly on NTA's conduct of JEE Main 2026, where Session 1 was held January 21–30, 2026, with results declared February 16 and 24, 2026, and Session 2 was held April 2–9, 2026, with results declared April 26, 2026.

Only candidates within the top 2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers across all categories are eligible to register for JEE Advanced, based on the qualifying criteria applied in 2026. 

What is the Syllabus for JEE Main Exam 2027?

The JEE Main syllabus has remained based on the NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum without major structural changes across recent years. Until NTA releases the official JEE Main 2027 syllabus alongside the information brochure, candidates can reliably prepare using the JEE Main 2026 syllabus, as the core topic distribution across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics has stayed consistent.

Since the JEE Main 2027 notification is not expected before October 2026, candidates have a working window of several months to complete syllabus coverage before registration opens.
