JEE Main 2027 Exam Date & Registration – Complete Timeline for Aspirants

When you consider that you are preparing for JEE Main 2027, the initial important thing to nail is your schedule—when the exam will be held, when the registration opens, and if you're even eligible to apply. NTA has already announced the tentative JEE Main 2027 exam dates for Session 1, thus, it is better to plan your preparation around it.

Everything that is confirmed (and what is currently still uncertain is clearly indicated) – exam dates, registration periods, eligibility, attempt limits and the exam pattern.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Dates (Session 1) — Officially Announced

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released its tentative examination calendar for the period December 2026 to March 2027, and JEE Main 2027 Session 1 will be conducted on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027, with January 31, 2027 kept as a buffer date. 

A few important points on this:

• This is a six-day exam window, and NTA will release the official notification bulletin soon with detailed information on registration, eligibility, and selection process. 

• Candidates must note that these dates are tentative and may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. 

• JEE Main 2027 Session 2 (April attempt): Exact dates haven't been released yet. Based on the usual exam cycle, Session 2 is likely to be conducted in April 2027.

JEE Main 2027 Registration Dates

Registration hasn't officially opened yet, but here's what's expected based on the standard NTA cycle:

The official registration date, application deadline and information bulletin are yet to be announced — candidates should rely on the official NTA and JEE Main portals for confirmed dates. The registration window for Session 1 typically stays open for around 27 to 28 days, so it's worth not waiting until the last day to apply. 

How to Register for JEE Main 2027

Once the application form opens on jeemain.nta.nic.in, the process typically looks like this:

1. Go to the official website and register with a valid email ID & mobile number.

2. Complete personal, academic, and communication information.

3. Attach photograph, signature and documents

4. Choose the time, paper and exam cities you want to take the exam.

5. Make the payment of the application fee using the payment options provided online.

6. Please read all the information that has been entered before submission.

7. Print the confirmation page and save it to your computer.

Registration shall be completed only when all information is completed, the photograph is uploaded and the registration fee is paid. 

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria

This is where a lot of confusion happens every year, so let's break it down clearly.

Age Limit

JEE Main 2027 doesn't have any age limit. If you are eligible, then it is because of your Class 12 passing year and academic qualification and not your age. 

Qualifying Exam & Passing Year

The candidates who have passed out Class 12 in 2025/26 or appearing for Class 12 in 2027 are expected to be eligible for JEE Main 2027 irrespective of their age. The student must have passed or appeared in Class 12 or equivalent exam with the required subjects for appearing in the JEE Main, which include Physics and Mathematics at least 5 subjects. 

Minimum Marks to Appear

This is where most of the students make the mistake that they believe there is a minimum marks criteria that they need to fulfil in order to appear in the upcoming JEE Main 2027 exam. Note the 75% rule which is discussed at the application process — not the exam.

The 75% Rule (For Admission, Not Appearance)

The 75% rule is not applied while appearing for the exam but is applied mainly while taking admission at the NITs and IIITs, IIEST (GFTIs) etc. through JoSAA/CSAB counselling. For all others (General category candidates), it is to ensure that a candidate gets 75% marks in class 12 (or equivalent) or a top 20 percentile in their board. The minimum qualifying marks for SC/ST candidates are 65%.

Number of Attempts

Candidates are allowed three consecutive attempt years, and the attempt limit is set at three consecutive years. Since each year has two sessions, the maximum works out to six attempts, but both sessions within one year count as a single "attempt year."

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern (Quick Overview)

The JEE Main Question Paper for B.E./B. Tech contains 75 questions for a maximum of 300 marks, covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
