What are the Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2026 Registration?
Not everyone can register for JEE Advanced.
Only students who have cleared JEE Main 2026 and secured a rank within the top 250,000 can register for JEE Advanced. If you do not meet this cutoff, you cannot register for JEE Advanced under any condition. The category-wise distribution is:
Category | Number of Candidates |
General (OPEN) | 101,250 |
OBC-NCL | 67,500 |
GEN-EWS | 25,000 |
SC | 37,500 |
ST | 18,750 |
PwD candidates are counted within each category horizontally. In case of tied ranks, the total may slightly cross 2,50,000.
2. Age Limit
General category candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2001. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get a 5-year relaxation born on or after October 1, 1996. Age is verified strictly from the Class X certificate.
3. Number of Attempts
A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. The earlier three-attempt rule no longer applies. If you appear in 2025, this is your final attempt.
4. Class XII First Appearance
Your first attempt at Class XII or a similar exam must be in 2025 or 2026. If you first sat for Class XII in 2024, you are generally not eligible. There is one exception—if your board declared the 2023–24 result on or after June 18, 2024, you may still qualify. If you are in this situation, check your board's result date before you register.
5. Minimum Marks for IIT Admission
This is not required for registration but matters during admission:
Minimum 75% aggregate marks in Class 12
ORBe in the top 20th percentile of your board
6. No Previous IIT Admission
If you were ever admitted to any IIT program through JoSAA, even if you withdrew or did not attend, then you are not eligible. The only exception is candidates who joined a preparatory course at an IIT in 2025.
What Will be the Registration Fee?
The JEE Advanced 2026 application fee varies by candidate category and exam
centre location. The table below outlines the category-wise registration fee for both Indian and foreign national candidates.
Category | Fee |
Female candidates (all categories) | ₹1,600 |
SC / ST / PwD candidates | ₹1,600 |
All other Indian candidates | ₹3,200 |
Foreign candidates — SAARC countries | USD 100 |
Foreign candidates — Non-SAARC countries | USD 200 |
Payment is accepted online only. Your bank or payment gateway may add a small extra charge on top of the registration fee. So before you hit pay, double-check your eligibility. There is no way to get that money back if you are not eligible.
What are the Documents Required for JEE Advanced?
Keep all of these important documents ready before you start filling out the form. Last-minute document hunting is the most common reason students make errors or miss the deadline.
Class X certificate for date of birth verification.
Class XII marksheet or hall ticket to confirm the year of the first attempt.
The scorecard for JEE Main 2026.
Category certificate for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS, if applicable
PwD certificate, if applicable.
A recent passport-size photograph in a white background.
A scanned signature on white paper with black or blue ink.
OCI/PIO card for foreign national applicants.
Scribe request form, along with supporting certificate, for candidates who need scribe assistance
Declaration form if your category certificate is not ready at the time of registration.
Scan everything before April 23. The portal specifies the exact size and format for each upload, and mismatched or blurry files are a common reason for form rejection.
How to Register for JEE Advanced 2026?
1. Visit jeeadv.ac.in and log in using your JEE Main 2026 application number and password. Your personal details will be auto-filled from the JEE Main database.
2. Check all pre-filled details carefully, like name, date of birth, category, and contact information.
3. Select your preferred exam center city. This choice is final. It cannot be changed after submission.
4. Upload all required documents as per the portal's specifications, in the correct file format, size, and dimensions.
5. Pay the registration fee online through net banking, UPI, or debit/credit card. This step must be completed before May 4, 2026.
6. After successful payment, download your confirmation page and save your registration number. You will need it to access your admit card.
What Happens After Registration?
The admit card will be out on May 11, 2026. You can download it from jeeadv.ac.in. Carry a printed copy on exam day — entry is not allowed without it.
Result Date: June 1, 2026
Results and qualifying cutoffs will be declared together on jeeadv.ac.in.
JoSAA counselling will begin on June 2, 2026.
After the results are declared, seat allocation across all 23 IITs happens through JoSAA. Your rank in JEE Advanced and the choices you fill out on the JoSAA portal decide which IIT and program you get. Registration on the JoSAA portal is a separate step; do not skip it.
What is the Exam Pattern of JEE Advanced 2026?
There are two papers for JEE Advanced 2026, and appearing in both is compulsory. If you skip one, you will not get a rank.
Paper | Time | Duration | Mode |
Paper 1 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM IST | 3 Hours | Computer-Based Test (CBT) |
Paper 2 | 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM IST | 3 Hours | Computer-Based Test (CBT) |
Both papers are held on the same day, May 17, 2026. The exam covers physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Question types include MCQs, numerical-value questions, and paragraph-based questions. Different types of questions have different marking schemes, and some sections have negative marking.
Seat Reservation Structure in JEE Advanced 2026
IITs have a fixed reservation structure for seat allocation. Here is the category-wise breakup:
Category | Reservation |
OBC-NCL | 27% |
GEN-EWS | 10% |
SC | 15% |
ST | 7.5% |
PwD | 5% horizontal reservation within each category |
On top of this, supernumerary seats are created specifically for female candidates to make sure at least 20% of enrolled students in each program are women. These seats are additional, so they do not reduce the number of seats available to other candidates.
