In a nuclear reactor, the fuel is consumed at the rate of1 mg s-1. The power generated in kilowatt is

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

From Einstein's mass energy relation the energy released is

∆E = ∆mc2

where ∆mis mass and c is speed is light.

Given

Δ m = 1mg = 1 × 1 0 - 6 kg, c = 3 × 1 0 8 m / s

∴  ∆E = 1 × 10-6 × 3 × 1082

∆E = 9×1010 J

The rate at which energy is dissipated is known as power,ie,

 P=∆ Et  =9 ×10101=9×1010W

Since,  103 W = 1k W

∴  P= 9 × 107 kW
