A car covers AB distance with first one-third at velocity v1 m s-1, second one-third at v2 m s-1 and last one-third at v3 m s-1. If v3=3v1,v2=2v1 and v1=11 m s-1, then the average velocity of the car is _____  m s-1.

Question diagram: A car covers A B distance with first one-third at velocity v
Answer:
18.00
Solution:

Let the total distance be d.

Time taken to cover 13rd of total distance is t1=d3v1.

Time taken to cover 13rd of total distance is t2=d3v2.

Time taken to cover 13rd of total distance is t3=d3v3.

Average speed=Total distanceTotal time

vavg=dd3v1+d3v2+d3v3

vavg=3v1v2v3v1v2+v2v3+v3v1

Here, v1=11 m s-1, then, v3=33 m s-1, v2=22  m s-1

Vavg =3×11×22×3311×22+22×33+33×11=18 m s-1
