An inductive coil has a resistance of 100 Ω. When an AC signal of frequency 1000 Hz is applied to the coil, the voltage leads the current by 45°. Find the approximate inductance(in mH) of the coil.

Answer:
16
Solution:

We know that:

tan φ = ω L / R

∴ L = (R / ω) * tan φ

ω = 2 π f

Substitute the values:

L = (100 / (2 π × 1000)) × tan 45°

= (100 / (2 π × 1000)) × 1

≈ 15.9 × 10⁻³ H

≈ 16 mH
