At minimum compression, the speed at the top satisfies

$v_{B}^{2} = g R$

A is a height R below the top, hence

$v_{A}^{2} = v_{B}^{2} + 2 g R = 3 g R$

At A, gravity has no radial component.

$N_{A} = \frac{m v _{A}^{2}}{R} = 3 m g = 15 N$

$3 x = 15 \Rightarrow x = 5$
