Speed is maximum when the acceleration vanishes: $k x = m_{2} g - μ m_{1} g$ . Energy from release to that point:

$(m_{2} g - μ m_{1} g) x - \frac{1}{2} k x^{2} = \frac{1}{2} (m_{1} + m_{2}) v^{2} \Rightarrow v = \frac{g ( m _{2} - μ m _{1} )}{k ( m _{1} + m _{2} )}$

If friction is absent, the same steps give $v = \frac{g m _{2}}{k ( m _{1} + m _{2} )}$ . Ans. (A,C)
