A standard cell of1.08 Vis balanced by the potential difference across90 cmof a1meter, long wire supplied by a cell of emf2Vthrough a series resistor of resistance2 Ω. If the internal resistance of cell in the primary circuit is zero then the resistance per unit length (inΩ m-1) of potentiometer wire is

Answer:
3.00
Solution:

E=X.l   (X=Potential gradient)

E =EoL×RwRw+r+Rh×l ∵ r = 0, Rh = 2 Ω

∴ 1.08 = 21 m×RwRw+2 × 0.90 m

1.082×0.90= RwRw+2

Hence :0.6 =RwRw+2

0.6 Rw + 1.2 = Rw⇒1.2 = 0.4 Rw ⇒3 = Rw

∴Resistance per unit length is3 Ω m-1
