The one division of main scale of vernier callipers reads1 mmand10divisions of Vernier scale is equal to the9divisions on main scale. When the two jaws of the instrument touch each other the zero of the Vernier lies to the right of zero of the main scale and its fourth division coincides with a main scale division. When a spherical bob is tightly placed between the two jaws, the zero of the Vernier scale lies in between4.1 cmand4.2 cmand6th Vernier division coincides with a main scale division. The diameter of the bob will be _____10-2 cm.

Answer:
412.00
Solution:

Given,

1 MSD=1 mm

10 VSD=9 MSD

Then, 1 VSD=910MSD=0.9 MSD

Least count of Vernier calliper is L.C. =0.1 mm=0.01 cm

Positive zero error=0.4 mm =0.04 cm

Observed reading of diameter of spherical bob=4.1 cm+6×0.01=4.16 cm

Real reading of diameter of bob=4.16-0.04=4.12 cm =412×10-2 cm
