The momentum of a photon of energy1 MeVinkgm s-1, will be

Options:

Answer:
D
Solution:

Energy of photon is given by

E=hcλ  ...(i)

Wherehis the Planck's constant, c the velocity of light andλits wavelength.

de-Broglie wavelength is given by

                               λ=hp

Wherepis being momentum of photon.

From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get

p= E c

Or E=p×c

Given, E =1 MeV=1×106×1.6×10-19J.

c=3×108 m s-1

Hence, after putting numerical values, we obtain

p=1×106×1.6×10-193×108

=5×10-22 kg m s-1
