In forced oscillations, an external periodic force drives the system. After initial transients die out, the system settles into a steady-state oscillation.

In this steady state, the system oscillates at the frequency of the driving force, not its natural frequency. The natural frequency determines the frequency at which resonance occurs (maximum amplitude). Damping significantly affects the amplitude of forced oscillations, especially near resonance.
