The length of an elastic string is 'a' meter when the tension is 4 N, and 'b' meter when the tension is 5 N. The length in metre when the tension is 9 N, is

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

T1=Kl-l1

T2=K(l-l2)

So, T 1 T 2 = l 1 −l l 2 −l

∴  T1l-T1l2=T2l-T2l1

T1-T2l=T1l2-T2l1

l= T1l2-T2l1(T1-T2)

l=5a-4b...(i)

k=1b-a ...(ii)

So, length of wire when tension is 9 N

9=kl′                            (l′=change in length)

9 =1b-a ×l'⇒l'= 9b-9a

Hence, final length=l+l'

=5a-4a+9a-9a

l0=5b-4a
