A composite parallel plate capacitor is made up of two different dielectric materials with different thickness (t1 and t2) as shown in figure. The two different dielectric material are separated by a conducting foil F. The voltage of the conducting foil is _____ V.

Question diagram: A composite parallel plate capacitor is made up of two diffe
Answer:
60.00
Solution:

Capacitance of each capacitor

C1=A3ε012=6 Aϵ0 and C2=A4ϵ01=4Aε0

Here, A is area of plate.

Equivalent capacitance is

Ceq=C1C2C1+C2=6Aε0×4Aε06Aε0+4Aε0=2410Aϵ0

Now, net charge stored is qnet=CeqΔV=2410Aε0100=240Aε0

Potential drop across C2 is ΔV2=240Aε04Aε0=60 V

Thus, voltage of the conducting foil is Vfoil =60 V
