Let the mean of 6 observations1,2,4,5,xandybe5and their variance be10. Then their mean deviation about the mean is equal to

Options:

Answer:
C
Solution:

Consider the data 1,2,4,5,x,y.

So,

Mean=1+2+4+5+x+y6

5=x+y+126

x+y=18

And,

Variance=xi2n-xin2

10=12+22+42+52+x2+y26-52

x2+y2=164

We have x+y=18 and x2+y2=164.

Now solving above equations we get, x=10, y=8,

Now mean deviation about mean will be =i=16xi-x6

=1-5+2-5+4-5+5-5+10-5+8-56

=166

=83

Therefore, the required answer is 83
