The mean and the median of the following ten numbers in increasing order10, 22, 26, 29, 34, x, 42, 67, 70, yare42and35respectively, thenyxis equal to:

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

Since, number of observations are even n=10

Hence, the median is =n2th term+n2+1th term2=5th term+6th term2

Thus, median =34+x2

34+x2=35

 x=36   ...i

And, mean=sum of termsnumber of terms

10+22+26+29+34+x+42+67+70+y10=42

  x+y+300=420

 x+y=120   ...ii

Put the value of x from i in ii, to get

36+y=120

y=84

yx=8436=73.
