Which of the following compound does not decolourized an acidified solution of KMnO₄?
Options:(select one or more)
Answer:
B
Solution:
Acidified KMnO₄ is decolourized by reducing agents. SO₂ (S +4 +6), H₂O₂ (O -1 0) and FeSO₄ (Fe²⁺ Fe³⁺) all reduce MnO₄⁻ and decolourize it. In FeCl₃, iron is already Fe³⁺ and Cl⁻ is not attacked by dilute acidified MnO₄⁻ at ordinary conditions, so it does not decolourize the solution.
