Passage / Comprehension

A mixture of and butene was collected in a Eudiometer tube. Then, 80 ml of oxygen were also introduced. The resulting mixture of all the gases was exploded. After cooling resulting gaseous mixture passes through KOH solution which caused a contraction of 32 ml and 16 ml of oxygen alone were left behind.

Calculate total volume (in ml) of initial mixture.

Options:

Answer:
A
Solution:

KOH absorbs CO₂, so CO₂ formed = 32 mL. Hence, butene = mL.

Initially O₂ = 80 mL, O₂ left = 16 mL O₂ consumed = 64 mL.

O₂ consumed by butene = mL.

Remaining O₂ consumed by H₂ = mL H₂ = mL.

Initial gas mixture = H₂ + C₄H₈ = mL.
