Calculate the equilibrium constant for the reaction (in 1012)

Fe 2 + + Ce 4 + ⇌  Fe 3 + + Ce 3 +

Given, E o Ce 4 + / Ce 3 +  =  1.44 V,    E o Fe 3 + / Fe 2 +  =  0.68 V RTF=.0591

Answer:
7.07
Solution:

Fe 2 + + Ce 4 + Fe 3 + + Ce 3 +

E o = E o Ce 4 + / Ce 3 +  -   E o Fe 3 + / Fe 2 +

1.44 - 0.68  =  0.76 V

∵    Eo = 0.059 log K

⇒      log  K  =  E o 0.0592

0.760.059=12.85

⇒     K = 7.07×1012
