If the difference in molecular weights of reactant and final product is X, then X/4?

Answer:
0
Solution:

Starting compound is butanoic acid (C₄H₈O₂).

With red P/Cl₂ → forms α-halo acid (A).

With NaCN → CN substitution gives nitrile (B).

Hydrolysis (H₃O⁺, Δ) converts nitrile back to carboxylic acid (C).

Final product has same number of carbons as initial.

So molecular weight of reactant = product.

Difference X = 0 ⇒ X/4 = 0
