IUD's are intrauterine devices. As the word suggests these are inserted in the uterus. The main difference between barrier methods like condoms and IUD'S are that the IUD's are inserted by a medical practioner and condoms are self-used. The main function of these devices are to kill the sperms so that they do not reach the oviduct. These suppress the endometrium lining too so that implantation is also avoided. Examples are CuT, Lippes loop, Hormonal IUD's etc. They can later be removed with the help of a professional or medical expert.
