Given below are two statements: Statement I: In eukaryotes there are three RNA polymerases in the nucleus in addition to the RNA polymerase found in the organelles. Statement II: All the three RNA polymerases in eukaryotic nucleus have different roles. In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:NEET 2024 (Re-NEET)
Options:
Answer:
Solution:
In eukaryotes, there are at least three RNA polymerase in the nucleus (in addition to the RNA polymerase found in the organelles). There is clear cut division of labour. RNA polymerase I transcribes rRNAs (28S, 18S, and 5.8 S ), whereas the RNA polymerase III is responsible for transcription of tRNA, 5 SrRNA and SnRNAs. The RNA polymerase II transcribes precursor of mRNA. Hence statement I and statement II, both are correct.
