In eukaryotes cistron shows split gene arrangement and consists of functional exon and non functional introns. The cistron synthesizes hnRNA which is highly unstable, to make it stable a cap of 7 methyl guanosine triphosphate is added at 5' end and a poly adenine tail is added at 3' end. This hnRNA now undergoes splicing to form functional mRNA.
