The effluent from the ______ treatment plant is generally released into natural water bodies like rivers and streams.

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

The primary effluent is passed to the aeration tanks in the secondary treatment where the aerobic microbes grow and form flocs. These microbes help in consuming the organic matter and in doing so reduce the BOD of the effluent significantly.

After reducing the BOD, the effluent is passed in to settling tanks where the settled flocs formed the activated sludge. Some part of it is used as inoculum and remaining is passed into large tanks called anaerobic sludge digesters. In the digestor, produce a mixture of gases which can be used as source of energy.

The effluent from the secondary treatment plant is generally released into natural water bodies like rivers and streams.
