The sudden increase in which of the following hormone is directly responsible for the release of ovum from the Graafian follicle?
Options:
Answer:
A
Solution:
Luteinising hormone is secreted by the anterior pituitary. It increases suddenly in the middle of the menstrual cycle. This is called LH surge. It stimulates the membrane granulosa cells of the Graafian follicle to release more liquor folliculi. This causes the pressure inside the follicle to increase causing it to rupture. The ovum in the secondary oocycte stage is released along with some follicular cells. This is called ovulation
