The nephron is the structural and functional unit of kidneys. It consists of the Malpighian corpuscle and renal tubule. Malpighian corpuscle consists of Bowman's capsule with glomerulus in it. The renal tubule consists of PCT, DCT and Henle's Loop. Nephrons play an important role in urine formation. It includes Ultrafiltration, Tubular Reabsorption and Tubular secretion. The entire renal tubule is responsible for tubular reabsorption. The obligatory reabsorption of water and solutes takes place through PCT and descending limb of Henle's loop. The facultative water reabsorption takes place in the late distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct under the control of antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
