Which of the following options about sites of digestion is CORRECT?

Options:

Answer:
D
Solution:

Digestion takes place through the alimentary canal. It begins in the mouth and completes in the small intestine. However, different foods get digested at different parts due to the presence of specific enzymes. Digestion of carbohydrates occurs in the mouth as it contains amylase i.e. carbohydrate digesting enzyme. The stomach releases the pepsin enzyme, which is protein-digesting and hence protein digestion takes place in the stomach and also in the small intestine. Lipid or the fat digestion begins in the stomach with the gastric lipase. However, the bulk of lipid digestion occurs in the small intestine due to pancreatic lipase. However, the small intestine is the site of the complete digestion of nucleic acids. Nucleic acids like DNA and RNA in food get digested in the small intestine with the help of pancreatic enzymes and the small intestine enzymes like ribonuclease and deoxyribonuclease.
