Which hormone possesses an anti-insulin effect?
Options:
Answer:
Solution:
Insulin is a hormone produced by beta cells of pancreas. Its main function is to transport glucose to the cells. Thus it decreases the blood glucose levels.. Glucagon is a hormone secreted by alpha cells of pancreas. Its function is opposite to that of insulin. Glucagon converts the glycogen into glucose and thus increases the blood glucose levels. Growth hormone and cortisol also have functions similar to glucagon i.e. opposite to that of insulin. Under stressful conditions, cortisol hormone secreted from the Adrenal cortex breaks down glucose from non carbohydrate sources. This is known as gluconeogenesis. This is important as body has increased demands to use glucose.
