Match the endocrine glands given in column I with their respective hormones in column II and the functions performed by those hormones in column III and select the correct option from the codes given below.
| No. | Endocrine gland | No. | Hormone | No. | Column III (Functions) |
| I | Neuorohypophysis | A | Cortisol | a | Hypocalcemic hormone |
| II | Adrenal cortex | B | PTH | b | Prevents excessive urination |
| III | Thyroid gland | C | Vasopressin | c | Hypercalcemic hormone |
| IV | Parathyroid gland | D | TCT | d | Anti-inflammatory reaction and suppression of immune response |
Options:
Answer:
Solution:
I. Neurohypophysis (posterior pituitary) secretes the hormone vasopressin, also known as anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). This hormone is responsible for reabsorption of water from the renal tubules and hence prevents excessive urination.
II. Adrenal cortex is responsible for secretion of hormone 'cortisol' which is a major glucocorticoid. It is responsible for anti-inflammatory reaction and suppression of immune response.
III. Thyroid gland secretes the hormone thyrocalcitonin (TCT). It is prevents resorption of calcium from the bones. It is a 'hypocalcemic hormone'.
IV. Parathyroid gland secretes parathyroid hormone (PTH). It is rresponsible for resorption if calcium from the bones and also prevents urinary excretion of calcium. Hence, it is a 'hypercalcemic hormone'.
