Match the following column I with column II:
| Column I | Column II | ||
| A | Methaemoglobin | I | Hb binds to CO2 |
| B | Oxyhaemoglobin | II | Hb binds to CO |
| C | Carboxy-haemoglobin | III | Hb binds to O2 |
| D | Carbamino-haemoglobin | IV | Hb has Fe3+ |
Options:
Answer:
A
Solution:
When the haemoglobin molecule binds the oxygen molecule, the resultant compound is called Oxyhaemoglobin. When the haemoglobin molecule binds the CO2 molecule, the resultant compound is called Carbamio-haemoglobin.
When Hb binds to CO, it forms an irreversible compound called carboxyhaemoglobin which causes carbon monoxide poisoning.
Methaemoglobin is referred to the Hb molecule which has oxidised iron moieties. In such a molecule, there is a Fe3+instead of the normal Fe2+.
