Which of the following is CORRECT regarding chemosensitive area?
Options:
Answer:
D
Solution:
Regulation of respiration involves both neural and chemical control. Nervous regulation is done by two centres in brain. These are respiratory rhythm centre in medulla and pneumotaxic centre in pons. These two centres regulate the rate and depth of breathing. Chemical control is by chemosensitive areas which are sensitive for chemicals and these areas are located adjacent to the rhythm centre. These areas contain chemoreceptors which are sensitive to carbon dioxide and hydrogen. These chemoreceptors are found in aortic bodies (located on aortic arch) and carotid bodies (located in carotid arteries).
