b. Development of pest-resistant crops (this reduces the use of pesticides in the field).

c. Post-harvest losses are reduced.

d. Mineral usage efficiency of plants is increased (exhaustion of fertility of the soil is delayed).

e. The nutritional value of food is increased, e.g., vitamin A enriched rice (golden rice). This rice is used to eliminate vitamin A deficiency diseases like night blindness. In this gene of beta carotene isolated from a flowering plant, Daffodil is added. Beta carotene is a precursor of vitamin A.

f. GMs are also being used to develop tailor-made plants to supply alternative resources to industries in the form of starches, fuels and pharmaceuticals.
