Answer the following by appropriately matching the lists based on the information given in the paragraph.

A block P of mass m is placed on smooth horizontal surface. Another block Q of same mass is placed on the block P and block Q is connected to the spring as shown in the diagram. The two blocks are pulled by a distance A and released. The blocks oscillates without slipping on each other. Then match the matrix.

List - I

List - II

(P) Towards right

(1) Friction force on P when both blocks are at equilibrium position & moving right.

(Q) Towards left

(2) Friction force on Q when both the blocks are at equilibrium position & moving left.

(R) Zero

(3) Friction force on P when both the blocks are at right extreme position.

(S) Maximum

(4) Friction force on Q when both the blocks are at left extreme position.

(5) Spring force on Q when the blocks are moving & on left side of equilibrium position.

Options:

Answer:
D
Solution:

At equilibrium position acceleration is zero, so friction on both blocks is zero. R 1,2

On the left of equilibrium the spring is stretched and pulls Q right. P 5

At the extremes the spring force is maximum, so friction is maximum: S 3,4

Friction on P at right extreme and on Q at left extreme both act left: Q 3,4
