$x_{1} = \frac{m}{k} (g + a)$

$x_{2} = \frac{m}{k} (g - a)$

$x_{3} = \frac{m}{k} \sqrt{g^{2} + a^{2}}$

$∵ x_{1}^{2} + x_{2}^{2} = \frac{m^{2}}{k^{2}} 2 (g^{2} + a^{2}) = 2 x_{3}^{2}$

$x_{3} = \sqrt{\frac{x_{1}^{2} + x_{2}^{2}}{2}} = \sqrt{\frac{2 (16 + 9)}{2}} = 5$
