Solution:

$4 g - T = 4 a$ and $T - g = a$

Solving: $a = \frac{3 g}{5} = 6$ m/s $^{2}$

Relative acceleration of the blocks $= 2 a = 12$ m/s $^{2}$ ; to cross each other they must cover a relative distance $= 2 + 4 = 6$ m

$6 = \frac{1}{2} \times 12 \times t^{2}$

$t = 1$ s
