A bullet fired into a fixed target loses half its velocity after penetrating 3 cm. How much further it will penetrate before coming to rest assuming that it faces constant resistance to motion?

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

For first part of penetration, by equation of motion,

( u⁡ 2 ) 2 = ( u⁡ ) 2 - 2 f⁡ ( 3 )

or 3 u⁡ 2 = 2 4 f⁡

For latter part of penetration,

0=(u⁡2)2-2f⁡x

oru⁡2=8f⁡x

Therefore,

3×(8f⁡x)=24f⁡

orx=1 cm
