Light of energy2.0 eVfalls on a metal of work function1.4 eV. The stopping potential is

Options:

Answer:
A
Solution:

From Planck's quantum theory, the maximum kinetic energy (Ek) of photoelectron emitted from the metal is

                      Ek=hf-W

Where W is the work function of metal andhfis the energy of the photon absorbed by the metal.

Given,hf=2 eV,  W=1.4 eV

∴  Ek=2-1.4=0.6 eV

Hence, stopping potential is ,Vs=Ee=0.6 eVe=0.6 V.
