The following fusion reaction takes place212A→B23+n+3.27 MeV. If2 kgofA12is subjected to the above reaction, the energy released is used to light a100 Wlamp, how long will the lamp glow?

Options:

Answer:
C
Solution:

Number of atoms in2 gofA12=6.023×1023

∴ No of atoms in2 kgofA12=6.023×10232×2000

∵The energy released in the fusion of twoA12nuclei=3.27  MeV

∴The energy released in the fusion of2 kgofA12

∴E=3272×6.023×1026×16×10-13 J

=15.76×1013  J

Power of bulb,P=100 W,=100J s-1

∴Time for which the bulb will glowt=EP

=15.75×1013100

=15.75×1011 s

=15.75×101160×60×24×365

=5×104 years
