The values of two resistors areR1=6 ±0.3 kΩandR2=10 ±0.2  kΩ.The percentage error in the equivalent resistance when they are connected in parallel is

Options:

Answer:
D
Solution:

R1=6±0.3kΩ, R2=10±0.2kΩ

                          Rparallel=R1R2R1+R2

LetR1+R2=x

                                RP=R1R2x

Taking log of both sides

                                ln RP=ln R1+lnR2-lnx

Differentiating,

                                 RPRP=R1R1+R2R2+-xx

                        xmean=0.3+0.22=0.25 Ω

                          Rmean=6+102=8 Ω

                               x=6+102=8 Ω

                           xx=0.258

Total error=0.36+0.210+0.258

                          =0.05+0.02+0.03125=0.10125

             RPRP=10.125%
