A uniformly wound solenoid coil of self-inductance1.8×10-4 Hand resistance6 Ωis broken up into two identical coils. These identical coils are then connected in parallel across a12 Vbattery of negligible resistance. The time constant for the current in the circuit is

Options:

Answer:
C
Solution:

Given, self-inductance,L=1.8×10-4 H

Resistance,R=6 Ω

When self-inductance and resistance are broken up into identical coils.

Then, the self-inductance of each oil

= 1.8×10-42 H

The resistance of each oil

= 6Ω2=3 Ω

Coil are then connected in parallel
( L eq = L 1 L 2 L 1 + L 2 )

∴ L′=1.82×10-4×1.82×10-41.82×10-4+1.82×10-4

=0.45×10-4 H

and  R′=3×33+3=1.5Ω
( R eq = R 1 R 2 R 1 + R 2 )

Time constant =L′R′

= 0.45×10-41.5=0.3×10-4 s
