Two circular coils P and Q are fixed coaxially and carry currents and respectively :-

Options:(select one or more)

Answer:
B, D
Solution:

Apply Lenz's law to each case.

(A) If I2 = 0 and P moves towards Q, flux through Q due to I1 increases; the induced current in Q must OPPOSE I1, not be in the same direction → incorrect.

(B) If I1 = 0 and Q moves towards P, the induced current in P is opposite to I2 (opposition of relative motion / flux increase) → correct.

(C) Currents in the SAME direction attract each other, so the coils would tend to move closer, not apart → incorrect.

(D) Currents in OPPOSITE directions repel, so the coils tend to move apart → correct.

Hence (B) and (D).
