PhysicsElecrostaticsRelation between field & potentialEasy2 minQB
PhysicsEasyassertion reason

Given below are two statements : one is labelled as Assertion (A) and the other is labelled as Reason(R)
Assertion (A) : Work done by electric field on moving a positive charge from one equipotential surface to other is always zero.
Reason (R) : Electric lines of forces are always perpendicular to equipotential surfaces.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below :

Options:

Answer:
C
Solution:

The equipotential surfaces are surfaces where the electric potential is same at every point. In other words, there is no potential difference along an equipotential surface. But for two different equipotential surfaces there should be potential difference.Since work done (W) is given by the equation W=qV, the work done is non zero.

Electric field is perpendicular to the equipotential surface.

(A) is not correct but (R) is correct
