$\Rightarrow \frac{k q}{x^{2}} = \frac{k \times 3 q}{{(r - x)}^{2}}$

$\Rightarrow {(r - x)}^{2} = 3 x^{2}$

$\Rightarrow r - x = \sqrt{3} x$

$\Rightarrow x = \frac{r}{\sqrt{3} + 1}$
