A point charge of10 µCis placed at the origin. At what location on theX-axis should a point charge of40 µCbe placed so that the net electric field is zero atx=2 cmon theX-axis ?

Question diagram: A point charge of 10 µ C is placed at the origin. At what lo

Options:

Answer:
A
Solution:

Let the charge 40 μC be placed at a distance X0 from the origin as shown in the figure.

For the electric field at x=2 to be 0,

EP=0k×1022=k×40 X0-22

12=2X0-2

X0-2=4

Therefore, the charge is located at X0=4+2=6 cm
