Resistance of a wire at 20 °C is20 Ωand at 500 °C is60 Ω. At what temperature its resistance is25 Ω?

Options:

Answer:
D
Solution:

Here,R20=20, R500=60Ω,Rt=25Ω,

∵          Rt=R01+αt(where R 0 = Resistance at 0 o C )

Whereαis the temperature coefficient of resistance.

∴   R20=R01+α×20

or    20=R01+α×20      ..i

R500=R01+α×500

or   60=R01+α×500           …ii

Dividing Eq. (ii) by Eq. (i), we get

6020=1+α×5001+α×20

or    3+60α=1+500α

or             α=2440 = 1 220 . o C −1

Again,R20=R01+α×20

or           20=R01+1220×20…(iii)

               Rt=R01+αt

               25=R01+1220×t    ..iv

Dividing Eq. (iv) by Eq (iii), we get

2520=1+1220×t1+1220×20⟹4+4t220=5+100220

or    t=80°C
