List-I

List-II

(P) Ram alone jumps to the left

(Q) Shyam alone jumps to the right

(R) Ram jumps to left and Shyam jumps to right simultaneously.

(S) Ram jumps to left and after that Shyam jumps to right.

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

Take the rightward direction as positive. The system is initially at rest.

P: Ram jumps left at 1 m/s relative to the plank.

Q: Shyam jumps right at 1 m/s relative to the plank.

R: both jump simultaneously.

S: after Ram jumps, Shyam and the plank move at 3/8 m/s. Apply momentum conservation to Shyam and the plank during the second jump.

P to 3, Q to 2, R to 4, S to 1. Answer: B.
