Note that we must have $3 x^{2} + x + 5 \geq 0$ and $x - 3 \geq 0$ or $x \geq 3$ . $3 x^{2} + x + 5 = x - 3$ Squaring both sides of (1), we get $3 x^{2} + x + 5 = x^{2} - 6 x + 9$

$\Rightarrow 2 x^{2} + 7 x - 4 = 0 \Rightarrow (2 x - 1) (x + 4) = 0 \Rightarrow x = 1/2, - 4$ None of these satisfy the inequality $x \geq 3$ . Thus, (1) has no solution.
