Given that be $= 2$ and $a = 2$
(here $a < b$ )
$∵ a^{2} = b^{2} (1 - e^{2})$
$∴ b^{2} = 8$
$∴$ Equation of ellipse $\frac{x^{2}}{4} + \frac{y^{2}}{8} = 1$
Clearly $(\sqrt{2}, 2)$ lies on the ellipse.
