The Clemmensen reduction is a reaction that is used to reduce aldehydes or ketones to alkanes using hydrochloric acid and zinc amalgam. In this reaction amide can undergo hydrolysis to convert into carboxylic acid.

The Wolff–Kishner reduction is a reaction used in organic chemistry to convert carbonyl functionalities into methylene groups in the presence of hydrazine in basic medium. Due to the alkaline medium, alkyl halides undergo beta elimination to convert into alkene as shown below.
