Passage / Comprehension

A salt (X), which produces a golden yellow color flame, reacts with dilute HCl to produce a poisonous gas (G₁) with an odor reminiscent of bitter almonds. Salt (X) also produces another poisonous, odorless gas (G₂) when reacted with concentrated H₂SO₄.

Aq. solution of (X) (excess) produce soluble complex salt [ ] with solution. Aqueous solution of salt produce dark blue coloration with solution.

Select CORRECT for complex salt :-

Options:(select one or more)

Answer:
A, B, C
Solution:

Salt X is a cyanide compound which forms strong field complexes with Fe. CN⁻ causes pairing of electrons in Fe, so the complex formed is low spin and diamagnetic. It uses inner d-orbitals of Fe, hence forms an inner orbital octahedral complex (d²sp³ hybridization). In cyanide complexes, bonding occurs through carbon atom (Fe–C linkage), not nitrogen. Therefore, statements (A), (B), and (C) are correct while (D) is incorrect.
