ChemistryMediummultiple choice

Which of the following statements are correct about the halides of IV group (carbon family) elements.

Options:(select one or more)

Answer:
A, B, C, D
Solution:

Due to back bonding from halogen to silicon electron density at silicon increase which strengthen the bond. This is absent in carbon halides. Due to absence of d-orbitals in carbon, carbon halides do not hydrolyse in water. and are ionic but other tetra halides are covalent. Due to inert pair effect, stability of tetrahalides decrease down the group while the stability of dihalides increase.
